Diverse supply for employment

The Greater Manhattan seven-county labor basin comprises 163,000 total population and available labor pool near 64,000 (Geary/Riley counties). According to a 2008 Docking Institute labor study, 99 percent of the available labor pool has at least a high school diploma, almost 84 percent has at least some college education and 27.6 percent has at least a bachelor’s degree.

Approximately 4,000 students graduate from K-State annually; 250 graduate from the technical college and 3,000 Fort Riley military personnel potentially enter the labor force in the Manhattan area. Many of these potential employees wish to stay in the area if the right employment opportunity were to present itself.
